Nova Street (New Street) Cross
It is a wooden cross set on an elevated cemented platform, accessed by steps. It is in the middle of a large lawn bordered by Cruzeiro Street and Papagaio Street, an uphill area, much higher than the Church Square (or Padre Benedito Firmino Square).
It measures 4.50 m high and 2.54 m wide, so that the arms are approximately half the height of the vertical rod. As a top finish, the figure of a rooster in cut iron plate. It is a Rooster of the Winds, which is a weathervane that combines a Rooster figure with a simplified Compass Rose. Driven by the incident wind, it indicates its direction.[1] The dimensions of the section of the wooden pieces, measuring 13x13cm in finished wood, indicate that they are from a more recent production.
Narrativa
According to Lady Divina do Espírito Santo, 94 years old, a resident of the Moura Lima Manor, “the cross used to have many added elements, in this case, the pieces of the crucifixion, but they were falling apart and now there is practically only the cross.”
According to Mr. Jaber Damasceno, 79 years old,there was another cross, the third (completing the design of the protection cross) in São Gonçalo do Bação, which was located in Volta da Lagoa, near the entrance to Rosalino Alley.

Assessment of the state of conservation/date/suggestions
The old ornamental elements of the cross have now fallen away, but the site is kept clean, including floral landscaping and a grassy floor around the cross. Weather action is the main reason for its degradation process. But it is in good condition. It is inserted in the religious rites of the Catholic Church such as Holy Week.
Registration in other heritage and environmental bodies
It is not listed as inventoried properties of the Itabirito City Hall or others.
